Emailing A Professor

Forming an email to a professor, especially one that you may not know very well, can be stressful and intimidating. With these few tips and tricks, hopefully it will become second nature to email your professor!

  • Proper Greeting
    • Starting your email with a “Hello” or “Dear” followed by your professor’s name is a great way to open your email.
  • Introduce Yourself
    • Putting your name, and your class number, even if the Professor knows who you are, never hurts.
  • Correct Grammar and Punctuation
    • Writing an email is not the same as writing a text. Be sure to proofread the email before hitting send.
  • Proper Closing
    • Conclude the email with a polite closing such as “Thank you” or “Best wishes” and then followed by your name.
